Eva & Emma Got Married!!!!!
And it was full of rainbows, Harry Potter, and Disney!
This glorious colorful wedding was a special one, because Eva has been working with Emily Katherine Events since 2017! Three years later found us planning her own wedding, and in 2021 I had the immense privilege of seeing these two get hitched at The Cloth Mill in a fall rainbow wedding extravaganza! Planning with Eva and Emma was a ton of fun, from the in person meetings at coffee shops and bars to the group texts with updates and photos of the fun decor they kept collecting! Eva’s experience in the wedding world meant she knew exactly who she wanted for some things (Rose Trail Images was a must have!), and she trusted her vendors completely! Their “colorful but not rainbow” wedding style merged nicely with their nerdy decor. We were able to tie in their shared love of music, Harry Potter, Avatar the Last Airbender, and Disney (Emma proposed to Eva in Disney World!).
Eva & Emma have a super close group of friends, so their wedding parties were fairly large. They got ready separately and then had a first look before the ceremony- cue the emotions! Eva’s party wore shades of blue, while Emma’s wore shades of red. The goal was for a fall sunset color scheme, and I love the variety of colors throughout their day! These rainbow converses also added a semi-hidden burst of rainbow!
Magical Weddings by Carly did a phenomenal job customizing a ceremony that perfectly fit Eva & Emma’s love story! They wrote their vows in seed paper vow books from Whole Weddings, and Stroke of Whimsy was there to capture the ceremony with a live painting!
I definitely heard Arioso Strings playing some Harry Potter and Disney tunes, which is almost always guaranteed to get me teary eyed (yeah I totally cried when they walked down the aisle to a version of “True Colors” that their friend arranged for them).
Eva and Emma met through marching band, so music is naturally a big factor in their lives together. That said, their musical interests are varied, as shows through their super cool Song Title table names! The record on their sweetheart table featured a photo of them and was a recording of their first dance song, “Your Song” by Elton John.
Oh, and they designed some pretty sweet Playbills as their programs, a nod to their love for the theater!
These FLOWERS!! Color Fields Farm knocked it out of the park on this one! Despite not wanting the whole wedding to be a rainbow explosion, Eva & Emma did want it to be very colorful, and they chose to bring in most of this color with the flowers. With three major floral installations (at the ceremony, hanging from the ceiling at dinner, and attached to the wall behind their sweetheart table), there was no shortage of beautiful blooms! Color Fields is one of our favorite florists to work with; they grow their own organically farmed flowers and supplement with blooms from other local farms! And as usual we made sure that flowers were donated after the wedding- flowers from this wedding were moved into smaller jars and taken to Meals on Wheels Durham.
Believe it or not, this was the scaled back dessert table- there was talk of adding on donuts, ice cream, and various other treats, but in the end wit was decided that cake, cupcakes, and macarons would be more than enough (agree to disagree). This was an area where we wanted to bring in some fun nods to their favorite fandoms, adding in elements of Harry Potter and Avatar the Last Airbender, while still keeping the cake itself a fairly traditional tiered wedding cake. By adding in the Harry Potter & Avatar symbols in silver and gold accents, you almost don’t notice the details til you’re up close! They snuck in a nod to their Alma Matter as well with the Miami University “M”.
And just to elevate the awesomeness of this dessert table, they ordered a Best Day Ever cake topper (more Disney!), and the most epic cake knife & server I’ve ever seen. The Harry Potter fan girl in me was jumping up and down when I saw these wands!
The rainbow macaron towers were something Eva was excited about early on. While they kept their wedding colors to primarily fall sunset tones, the macarons were intended to be a bright pop of rainbow! Because love y’all. Just love.
At the end of the night, guests held up LED candles for a magical & luminous send off. Fun fact- these candles are originally from another wedding that Eva assisted with back in 2018! That couple graciously donated the candles to our small stash of wedding supplies, and we’ve used them in several weddings since then. Check out their blog post to see more photos of this ethereal exit idea!
Big thank you to all the vendors who worked on this very special wedding! Hand picked by Eva & Emma, and what a magical day they created!
