I joined the wedding industry for a simple reason: I love love. You can ask any of my assistants! During a wedding day, I will often turn to them and say "I love love" with hearts in my eyes. Truly, there’s nothing better than a day full of excitement, big hugs, and a packed dance floor!
I first joined Emily Katherine Events in 2017, helping behind the scenes before eventually stepping into the lead role and now running the show. These days, I get to help couples turn their ideas into joyful, personal celebrations while keeping all the timelines, details, and behind-the-scenes magic running smoothly.
Originally from Kent, Ohio, I now live in Durham with my wife, Emma, our two cats, Tiabeanie and Mac, and our pupper, Geraldine. When I’m not planning weddings, you’ll usually find me cozied up with a nice cup of tea, working on one of my several craft projects (most likely a plushie we don't need) while an audiobook keeps me company.
Emily has been planning parties for as long as she can remember. Growing up, she loved turning every family gathering into an excuse for themed decorations and thoughtful details (a tradition happily picked up from her mom!)
Her love for weddings really took off while planning her own in 2012. Somewhere between the flowers, the timelines, and the happy tears, she realized this was the kind of magic she wanted to help create for other couples, too. That spark led her into the wedding industry as a videographer, and eventually to launching Emily Katherine Events in 2015.
Nearly a decade and countless celebrations later, Emily shifted her focus toward family life in Durham with her husband, son, and doggo Ginger. While Eva now leads EK Events day-to-day, Emily is still part of the magic as the company’s #1 consultant.
She was our day-of-coordinator and going with her was the best decision we ever made. In the weeks leading up to the wedding, she coordinated with all of our vendors and relieved so much stress for us. But her true skills shined during the wedding day. There were so many small details that popped up and she handled everything with ease. Eva is incredibly professional and is well tapped into the local wedding industry. She was THE BEST VENDOR we had on our wedding day and HIGHLY RECOMMEND her for your special day!!
Pretty weddings are great. Planet-friendly ones? Even better. We love working with environmentally conscious vendors, bringing small compost bins to cut back on food waste (yes, we’re those people - and proud of it), and arranging flower donations after your wedding so those blooms keep spreading joy long after the last dance.
All couples are welcome here, no matter your race, religion, sexuality, gender, or background. Your wedding should be a space where you feel safe, celebrated, and completely yourselves. We intentionally work with inclusive vendors, too, so every part of your day reflects the respect and joy you deserve.
