Hayley and Dave got married at Doukenie Winery in northern Virginia this summer.
When I started talking to Hayley about her wedding, I could not wait to be a part of bringing her vision to life! Hayley has some seriously talented friends, and they really took DIY to the next level with custom floral arrangements, hysterical MCing, and fantastic handmade decor.
I love DIY weddings. I just do. The personal aspect it brings to the event, the feeling that friends and family have infused their love into your special day through their creative efforts. And if your talented friends and family make it possible to cut costs, even more awesome! Budgets are important, weddings can get expensive and no one wants start their marriage off in debt. But I cannot stress this enough, having a DIY wedding often means a LOT of extra work the day of. No florist? Someone needs to set up your flowers. No DJ? Who’s in charge of your iPod and PA system? Sure, you can assign these duties to a bridesmaid or relative, but wouldn’t you rather they enjoyed this amazing day you have been planning for months? This is what I do!
Even if you need no help planning the event, Emily Katherine Events will come out and make sure the vision you have been working toward is realized, and that your family and friends are able to enjoy their role as guests.

And be smart like Hayley… hire a day of coordinator!
